The Covid-19 pandemic has created havoc in the hospitality, meetings, and events industry. Tens of thousands of highly trained and experienced professionals have been displaced from their jobs as business travel and live events have been restricted, cancelled or postponed.
While it’s true that our current circumstances have been devastating for the entire hospitality industry, there is a silver lining that you may not have considered. If you work for a company that is currently recruiting, think outside the box and consider those who have experience planning meetings and events.
Event and meeting professionals may not immediately come to mind for some of the open positions in your company, but they have a distinctive set of skills that can provide extraordinary value to a variety of industries and are uniquely qualified for a variety of roles.
Are you looking for someone with project management or leadership experience? Event planners know how provide the structure and processes necessary for the teams and their projects to succeed. They are ultra-organized and know how to manage multiple tasks and deadlines using a detailed action plan: they can quickly adapt to changing circumstances.
Event professionals are problem-solvers and possess conflict resolution skills. They typically have proficiency in budgeting, marketing, logistics, contract negotiation and risk management. Best of all, successful event and meeting managers have fantastic communication skills and have a level of enthusiasm and passion for their projects that is second to none.
Your company would be well served if you make room in your interview process for those with expertise in planning meetings and events.
